Agua Fresca

Origin of Aguas Frescas, according to Mexican lore, the Aztecs muddled the first Aguas Frescas from fruits gathered while paddling along the waterways of Tenochtitlán.

WHAT IS AGUAS FRESCAS:

Agua Frescas (Spanish for "cool waters", or literally "fresh waters") are light non-alcoholic beverages made from one or more fruits, cereals, flowers, or seeds blended with sugar and water. They are popular in Mexico and the United States.

HOW TO MAKE AGUAS FRESCAS:

This cool and refreshing drink is quick and easy to make, all it takes is the fruit, lime juice, water, and a little sugar. If you want Aguas Frescas a little sweeter and you don’t want to add sugar try adding coconut water.

  • Blend together 2 cups of fruit with 2 cups of water*, lime juice, and sugar* at high speed until smooth.
  • Strain through a medium strainer for seeds, the pulp(fiber) is beneficial. Pour into a large pitcher or bowl. Stir in the remaining 1 1/2 cups of water.
  • Refrigerate for 1 hour or longer. Fill a glass with ice, pour in the agua fresca, and serve with a sprig of mint or lime slice.
❉Tips:
  • Want less sugar? try Stevia or a sugar substitute instead of granulated sugar
