Bionicos (Mexican Fruit Cups)

One of my favorite desserts, Bionicos (Mexican Fruit Cups), a popular street food, made from seasonal fruit and add-ins; easy to make, and whips up in a few minutes.

Bionico is a popular Mexican dessert that originated in the city of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico, in the early 1990s. It is essentially a fruit salad consisting of a variety of fruits chopped up into small cubes, drenched with crema, and topped off with granola, shredded coconut, raisins, and sometimes honey.

I highly recommend using your favorite fruits. If they are not in season, just use seasonal fruits. Be a little adventurous and try as many fruit combinations as possible. Make it a family activity, get your kids involved, and have a great time creating a tasty dessert.

Whatś in Bionicos | Mexican Fruit Cups

Fruit: Great fruit combos is whatever you prefer.
  • Pineapple, blueberries, cherries, strawberries
  • Papaya, banana, apples, mango
Crema Mixture: Mexican Crema, Sweetened Condensed Milk (fat-free or regular),  and Yogurt (plain or vanilla). If you can´t find Mexican crema, you can substitute it with Crème Fraîche.

Granola: Store-bought or homemade granola provides the perfect crunch in this fruit cup.

Raisins: Craisins can be used instead of raisins.

Coconut: Sweetened coconut flakes or shredded work for this recipe.

The sweetness of the condensed milk and shredded coconut make your taste buds ask for more of this delicious dessert.

A great choice for an after school treat or a mid-day pick me up, or a quick, healthy breakfast.
