Zesty Chipotle-Lime Crema

Fresh Lime + Crema (Mexican Sour Cream) + Chipotle = A tangy, spicy sauce that will kick up anything you drizzle it on ... tacos, nachos, quesadillas, and cheeseburgers!

Chipotle chiles are dried smoked jalapeƱos. Adobo is a tangy, slightly sweet red sauce. Put them together in a can and they become a versatile pantry staple. The chipotles are intense smoky chile heat and the sauce has a sour-sweet flavor and a slightly less fiery smoky heat. 
The combination of Lime and Chipotles in adobo sauce, plus the creaminess of sour cream, with the sweetness of honey, makes for a sauce (crema) that will heighten the flavors of any Mexican meal. Chipotle-Lime Crema can be used as a salad dressing for burrito bowls, replace your fry sauce, and is great drizzled on beer batter fish tacos

How to Make Chipotle-Lime Crema

Combine the sour cream, honey, chipotles, lime juice, zest, and salt in a food processor, or blender, and blend until creamy and smooth. Transfer the sauce to a container (I like to store it in a squeeze bottle) and refrigerate until ready to serve.

The crema may be prepared in advance and refrigerated, where it will keep for 5 to 7 days in an air-tight container or squeeze bottle.

Chipotles in adobo sauce are one of the easiest ways to get deep, smoky, spicy flavor into a dish. The only problem is that no recipe ever calls for the whole can of the chiles. Cook with them once, and there are always leftover peppers. Always.

  • Flash Freeze chipotle in adobo sauce. Place the chilies and sauce into separate freezer bags, mark how many chiles are in the bag, and date it. When you need it for any recipe, pull it from the freezer, it thaws out in minutes.
  • BBQ sauce, kick up your sauce by blending BBQ sauce and one to two chipotles in adobo sauce in a blender. The sauce will have a nice smoky kick and will add so much flavor to your steaks, burgers, and veggies.
  • Add one or two chipotles in adobo sauce to any marinade and transform the marinade to a smoky delectable flavor.

Kick up your meals with Chipotle-Lime Crema 

  • 1 cup Mexican sour cream (Greek yogurt can be used instead)
  • 2 tablespoons chipotles in adobo, finely chopped, including sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice + 1/2 tsp grated lime zest
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • Pinch of sea salt
  1. Blend together all the ingredients. If you'd like to thin the sauce for drizzling, add a little water to the mixture.
