Easy to Make Mexican Paletas (Popsicles)

Paletas are a Mexican frozen treat unlike American popsicles which are flavored with a mix of sugar syrups and food dyes, paletas are constructed from whole ingredients like fresh pureed fruits, nuts, herbs, and spices.

This Homemade Mexican Fruit Paletas recipe is an easy, healthy, and refreshing treat or snack to make for your kids this summer!

There’s nothing like a sweet, fruity popsicle to cool down from the summer heat. It’s no wonder paletas have been described as “summer on a stick.”

How to make Mexican Paletas

  • Roughly chop the fruit you are using for your paletas.
  • Save 1/2 cup of fruit to place in the popsicle molds.
  • Place fruit, lime juice, sugar, and water into the blender. Optional: Sugar and water can be replaced by a low-sugar fruit juice
  • Blend until smooth and pour into popsicle molds*

  • *If your molds don’t have built-in Popsicle sticks (or if you are using paper cups or some other vessel as molds), take your pops out of the freezer after about an hour and insert wooden sticks into the slushy mix; return to the freezer.

Storing:  To freeze for later, once the popsicles are removed from the molds place them on a baking sheet to flash freeze them for 30 minutes. Place them in an airtight, freezer-friendly container or Ziploc bag until you are ready to enjoy them!
